Overview of Natonal Apprenticeship Week (NAW)
National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is a nationwide celebration that showcases the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeships. Celebrating its 9th year from November 13-19, 2023, NAW is instrumental in promoting good quality jobs, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities.
This year's theme, "Registered Apprenticeship: Superhighway to Good Jobs," emphasizes the importance of apprenticeships in rebuilding our economy and improving diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in the workplace. Registered Apprenticeships are recognized as a key strategy to improving job quality and creating access to good-paying jobs for all, including populations historically underrepresented – women, people of color, and individuals with a disability – and underserved populations, such as youth and young adults.

RAs are more than just training programs; they're pathways to sustainable careers, economic growth, and a brighter future. Through hands-on learning and real-world experience, apprenticeships equip individuals with the skills they need to thrive in today's ever-evolving job market.

Registered Apprenticeships change lives, help to solidify the global competitiveness of our economy, and provide pathways of success in the rewarding and rapidly growing semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries.

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), NIIT has partnered with the U.S. Department of Labor, regional and national workforce partners, and apprentices themselves, to highlight the opportunity in the semiconductor industry and how we’re executing on a national strategy to build the nation’s talent pipeline.

Over the course of NAW, NIIT will be hosting several live and virtual events, as well as doing digital outreach on Registered Apprenticeship Programs.

Monday: Opportunity for Transitioning Veterans
When veterans and their families are transitioning from military to civilian life, there can be difficulties in moving into a high-quality civilian role that aligns with their skill set. That's where Registered Apprenticeships and related programs can make a major difference. With NIIT's VetConnect program, work with partners like Purdue University, and the organization's status in the U.S. DOL's ENPP, we are working to address the semiconductor industry skill gap while providing opportunities for those who served our country.

Tuesday: Growth in an Emerging Industry
RAs offer skills-based learning in a “learn-and-earn” environment and provide exciting career pathways, but with semiconductor, nanotechnology, and advanced manufacturing, there is also a lot of room for growth as an emerging industry. Semiconductor and nanotechnology manufacturing are a part of the national conversation, and addressing the skilled labor shortage is a part of that.

Wednesday: National Semiconductor Day
The semiconductor industry is the unsung hero behind our digital age, powering everything from smartphones to advanced medical equipment. As we recognize its contributions, we also emphasize the need for a robust talent pipeline to ensure the U.S. remains a leader in semiconductor manufacturing. That’s why NIIT has launched the first-ever National Semiconductor Day , which will take place on November 15 during NAW. READ MORE

Thursday: Opportunity for All
Education access is an important component in addressing economic and social inequality - but that doesn’t just extend to traditional post-secondary education. RAs provide individuals an opportunity to “learn-and-earn” and gain access to in-demand, marketable skills and to build a rewarding career. Supporting underserved and underrepresented populations is at the core of what NIIT does, and we believe that through executing on the national strategy to build the talent pipeline, we will create a pathway for these populations to change their circumstances.

Friday: The Future of RAs
It’s not enough to address retraining and rerouting the adult workforce. In order to fully execute on a long-lasting national strategy to grow the talent pipeline, work must be done to provide pathways for the next generation of learners. NIIT is reimagining youth apprenticeships, implementing programs that allow K-12 to seamlessly feed into and create pathways in semiconductor and advanced manufacturing through RAs
