The NIIT is leveraging its National Talent Hub, regional outreach capabilities and comprehensive industry engagement to take the lead in expanding the use of Registered Apprenticeships in strategic industry sectors.

GAINS

The NIIT’s  Growing Apprenticeships in Nanotechnology and Semiconductors program, or “GAINS”, is a US Department of Labor funded program that takes a competency based vs. hours based approach in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) designed to meet the unique needs of the tech sector and more cost effectively and efficiently targeting training to meet required job proficiencies. The NIIT is the only organization with a comprehensive approach and infrastructure that is designed to support RAPs for the semiconductor and nanotechnology sectors and broaden the pipeline by creating access to underrepresented populations.

As part of GAINS, the NIIT’s Career Readiness Program (CRP) is designed to provide opportunities for those whose jobs have been negatively impacted by the COVID pandemic, which has been disproportionately impacted women and more diverse populations.

Through the CRP NIIT facilitates the engagement of regional organizations, educational institutions and employers and its National Talent Hub infrastructure to access skills and target training to meet minimal technician job requirements within a “learn-and-earn” model in 150 hours or less of training.  The CRP is designed to be the entry point to full apprenticeships.  The CRP can provide a pathway to better careers and further education for those who may never have otherwise had the opportunity, maximizing the multiplying effect that is often realized by engaging the first generation in tech careers and/or furthering educational opportunities.
